Findlay Installs First AD-S52's In Channel Islands
10.08.2004 -- Since being introduced to the new AcousticDesign AD-S52 loudspeakers by QSC's Brian English at last year's PLASA Show in London, Dave Findlay's Channel Islands-based Project Audio have been favouring their high performance/compact profile ratio for installation purposes.
Having already been familiar with the larger AD-S82's, at Earl's Court he discovered at first hand the attributes of the two-way AD-S52, with its sleek, contemporary styling - and sensed it would be ideally suited for Anwar Mahi's newly refurbished (and enlarged) Elly's Bar & Restaurant on the Jersey resort of La Pulente.
Project Audio are running ten of these - purchased from Shure Distribution UK - in the four-zone restaurant, fed from background hard drive computer by day and live DJ playback sources after dark. Each of the zones is addressed by a single channel of a four-channel QSC CX254 amplifier, which occupies just 2U of rack space.
Two AD-S52 enclosures are located in the main restaurant, with a further two in the conservatory, two in the smaller restaurant area and two in the bar. The final pair are installed upstairs and run on an independent system.
"I believe I was the first person in the UK to install these," says Dave proudly, "and I really had no hesitation. They sound bright and have enormous flexibility, since they can be décor matched and used both inside and out; being a resort island there is a lot of al fresco activity here."
At the same time Dave Findlay is placing the QSC ISIS series loudspeakers at the heart of a new Project Audio hire rig.
Specialising in both conference and rock and roll work on Jersey, he is building up a rental system which will comprise four ISIS 152 two-way full range speakers and four ISIS 215PCM active subwoofers - as well as some QSC WideLine line array enclosures - which are sure to prove popular with the high-profile brand recognition that QSC is starting to enjoy in the Channel Islands.
