Shure Build on Music Heritage by Teaming Up with Prestigious Venues

First class sound systems for Ronnie Scott’s, Cavern Club, Amika Member’s Club

London, 09 September 2007 - Shure Distribution UK (SDUK), a leading distributor of professional audio equipment, is building upon their music heritage by linking up with and kitting out legendary music venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and Cavern Club as well the more contemporary Rough Trade East and the exclusive London members club, Amika.

Over the years, Ronnie Scott’s Club has developed a reputation of bringing the best of British modern jazz musicians to London, paving the way for many legendary performances. Some of the Jazz artists that have made their name at Ronnie Scott’s include Pete King, Benny Green and Jimmy Watson. The club has been decked out with a large selection of Shure microphones including Beta, KSM and SM to enhance the sound of performances by celebrated performers as well as by up coming artists. Danny Kissane, sound engineer for Ronnie Scott’s says, “We use Shure microphones for their durability. Their entire range, including their renowned SM58, is truly versatile for all our applications here at Ronnie Scott’s.” The Cavern Club opened as a jazz club in 1957 and became world famous when The Beatles performed there no less than 292 times in the early 1960s. Gerry and the Pacemakers went on to play there and the Cavern is often quoted as fuelling the music of that generation.

Shure plays a large role in the provision of their audio equipment, specifically with regards to microphones including Shure SM94, SM57 and the world renowned SM58.

Rough Trade East, the retail outlet for the UK’s most successful independent label (having released records by Arcade Fire, Belle & Sebastien and The Strokes to name but a few) have recently opened a 5,000 sq. ft. East End shop just off Brick Lane complete with coffee shop, performance stage and exhibition space. Sticking to their roots as a cutting edge music specialist store, frequent invite-only gigs will take place including performances by Sonic Youth and the hotly tipped New Young Pony Club. Stephen Godfroy, director of Rough Trade East says, "When looking for a mic partner for Rough Trade East instore gigs, there was only one brand we had in mind....Shure. Needless to say, we're privileged to have Shure work alongside us to present the most exciting new artists to music lovers as definitively as possible, here at Rough Trade East."

The exclusive Kensington members club, Amika, has been fitted with QSC products which are exclusive to Shure Distribution UK, and is setting a new standard in club sound with one of the best audio systems in town. The main bar and dance floor area features four Modular Design MD-F152/64r enclosures with a pair of MD-S218 woofers pumping out the sub-frequencies from some of the capital’s top DJ’s. The VIP Champagne Bar is fitted with four AD-S282H loudspeakers and the amplification for the entire venue is a mix of the world renowned RMX Series of amplifiers, while control and routing is controlled by a QSCControl.net DSP322ua. The club’s QSC sound system was a huge success with New York DJ Erick Morillo who played at the opening night party, officially inaugurating the club with his unique brand of progressive house music.

“We used DJs to help spec the sound booth, and without a great sound system we could never have attracted someone of Erick Morillo’s calibre,” says Alex Nicholl, general manager of Amika, whose career has been spent in top-end nightclubs. “Now everyone wants to come down and play.”

“We are proud to be associated with a wide range of music venues from the prestigious Ronnie Scott’s to the contemporary Rough Trade East and the exclusive Amika,” says Paul Crognale, marketing manager at Shure Distribution UK. “Music is our passion and we aim to build relationships with labels we see to be innovative (Rough Trade) and venues of legendary stature (Cavern Club / Ronnie Scott’s) and couldn’t be happier with our recent endorsements.”
