Shure Wins The X Factor for the Fifth Year Running
London, 14 November 2007 – For the fifth year running the hit show “The X-Factor” has once again selected Shure microphones for use on the live shows. Being amateur performers judged to a professional standard, The X-Factor contestants need a microphone set-up that provides them with the best on-stage vocal output.
Shure UHF-R wireless products were chosen to fulfil the microphone needs in a busy RF environment. Dual-channel UR4D receivers were selected and all the X-Factor contestants use Shure Beta87C handheld wireless microphones on stage. Most contestants are performing in front of a live television audience for the first time and when nerves are on edge having confidence in your mic system is essential. Sound Director Robert Edwards for the award winning show commented, “Again we turned to Shure to provide all the vocal mics for the live ITV shows. They have given us total reliability in a very hostile RF environment. The vocals sound so good that we use the live mixes on the B-side of the singles. For Big Band week, the whole live orchestra used Shure SCL3 earphones to satisfy their monitoring requirements."
Shure Beta microphones are designed specifically for use in live performance applications, featuring carefully tailored supercardioid or cardioid polar patterns for use when high sound levels onstage require maximum isolation without sacrificing sound quality. When judges are looking for the possible winner a microphone that provides an accurate reproduction of its source is ideal. Here the Beta87C comes into its own, providing an extremely smooth, tailored response for a warm, natural sound. With its cardioid design, sound is blocked from the rear of the microphone making the Beta87C ideal for use with In-Ear Monitors and providing the perfect isolation to assist the contestant in their live performance.
Shure UHF-R wireless systems are ideal for use in a live TV show environment as the UR4D dual channel receivers have up to 3000 selectable frequencies across an ultra-wide 75 MHz bandwidth providing superior capability to respond to changing, unpredictable and hostile RF conditions. Along with Shure’s Advanced Track Tuning Filtering Technology, which shifts the RF filter along with the selected frequency, UHF-R systems offer up to 47 compatible systems per band without audio degradation or interference.
