Shure Seizes Counterfeit Microphones in China
Heilbronn/Germany, November 26, 2007 - - Earlier this year, Shure Incorporated worked closely with China Customs to seize a large quantity of counterfeit Shure microphones, which were destined for Indonesia.
The shipment, detained by Huangpu Customs in Guangdong Province, also included counterfeit Sony, Hitachi and Pioneer products, and the swift action by Shure prevented counterfeit Shure products from leaving Chinese ports.
"This is an industry-wide problem, not just a Shure problem, that we simply will not tolerate," said Sandy LaMantia, President and CEO of Shure. "For our part, we are committed to fighting it so that our customers are confident every time they purchase a product bearing the Shure name."
The investigation by Shure revealed that this large shipment of counterfeit microphones was being exported by the SHEN QIAO XING Company, which is based in Shenzhen City. Subsequently, Shure filed a civil complaint for trademark infringement in the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court against the exporter and the judgement is pending.
Shure has also been sucessfully conducting similar operations in Europe, South America, the Middle East, Africa and the United States.
"We encourage our customers to only purchase our products from authorized Shure dealers, whether they're making an in-store purchase or buying from an online seller," added LaMantia.
