Shure SM58 Bags Best Live Microphone

Shure wins Best Live Mic award for SM58 in MI Pro Retails Survey

London, 07 February 2008 – For the second year running, the SM58 has wiped the floor with the competition and won the MI Pro Retail Survey 2008  “Best Live Mic” award with a massive 45% of the votes cast by leading major and independent retailers. Shure’s SM58 and the PG58 beat the Elector-Voice 767, GYC GS 565 and Sennheiser Evolution to win and take second place respectively for the Best Live Mic.

Established as one of the biggest pieces of market research in the UK MI market, the MI Pro Retail Survey looks back at the star products and underlying trends of the last 12 months. The survey was conducted through a series of interviews with 100 retailers, which included all major chains and leading independents. 100 MI retailers were asked what they thought the best live mic was, whether in terms of units sold, profit made or simply a great item to stock.  Shure came out on top in the live microphone category and were also positioned in the top 5 with the Shure Beta58 in the Best Studio Microphone category.

Commenting after the event, Andy Barrett of MI Pro magazine said; “Shure has not only held onto its top slot for live mic’s, but it has seen the PG mic push up the rankings to the second slot, giving it nearly 60 percent of the combined vote – quite staggering”

“We’re really pleased with the result in MI Pro, it’s vital for us to know what our MI retailers value and I also believe the SM58 is still the world’s most popular live mic. The proof is not only in the survey results but sales continue to increase year on year and the mic continues to be the preferred mic of choice for many artists and engineers. I’m also very pleased that the Beta and PG ranges are getting the recognition they deserve, and I’m confident it won’t be long before people are talking in the same way about our fantastic KSM series of studio mics. Just watch this space for further developments in this area!”
