Shure & Snow Patrol announce remix competition
Shure Europe are announcing a high-profile remix competition with UK rock band Snow Patrol, to run from the beginning of October to mid-December 2012. Winners will receive prizes of Shure equipment worth up to 1500 Euros for the best remix of the title track from the band's most recent album, Fallen Empires.
Snow Patrol are one of the biggest bands to come out of the British Isles in the last 15 years, with over 12 million albums sold to date. Their 2006 single Chasing Cars was, according to the UK music licensing organisation PPL, the most publicly broadcast song of the first decade of the 21st century. The band have also been users of Shure microphones for several years, using a whole range of Shure mics live and in the studio. They also rely on Shure UHF-R wireless systems on live guitar and bass. The new remix competition, for which Snow Patrol are making the isolated music and vocal tracks from 'Fallen Empires' publicly available, reflects the close working relationship between Shure and the band, and the high regard the band have for Shure's products.
"It's a great honour to work with Snow Patrol on this competition," comments Shure Distribution's UK Marketing Manager Paul Crognale. "Not many artists make the isolated stems from one of their biggest tracks available to the general public like this. We look forward to what Europe's finest up and coming engineers, producers and remixers can achieve creatively with the building blocks to 'Fallen Empires' this Autumn."
Snow Patrol themselves, commenting on what their aims were for the competition and wishing all participants well, have said that they are simply hoping that entrants will "create something new and original" using the mix stems of 'Fallen Empires' and that they will not favour any particular style or genre when picking the winners.
The band's final comment is, "Everyone will be judged on the same level, whether your entry transforms Fallen Empires into anything from an acoustic track to a techno track".
Reflecting this open brief as to possible styles and genres, the rules of the competition itself are equally simple: following registration at www.shure-remix-competition.eu, entrants to the competition will be given a download link to the track stems which make up the title composition from Snow Patrol's most recent album, Fallen Empires. Entrants may then remix the track according to their desires, using, augmenting or omitting instruments and vocals as they wish. In order to be eligible for the competition, remixes must be submitted via the competition web site. Shure Europe will put together a shortlist of the best remixes, which will then be forwarded to Snow Patrol for them to pick the final winners. There will be three winners in total, each receiving Euro vouchers for Shure equipment to be spent as the winner wishes. The bronze prize will be a voucher worth 500 Euros, the silver prize will be worth 1000 Euros, while the 'gold-medal' remix will be awarded the right to 1500 Euros' worth of Shure gear.
The competition will open on October 1st, and all eligible entries must be submitted by the end of December 14th, 2012.
